Black kitchen

Robidišče

A black kitchen is situated in house no. 14 in Robidišče, the westernmost Slovenian village; the black kitchen with fireplace is one such as is rarely found nowadays in its original and unchanged form. With its low, self-supporting fireplace, it is attributed to the type of Mediterranean low fireplace, which can only be found in the western and southwestern regions of Slovenia.

The fireplace area serves also as the main living area in the house. This type of fireplace presents one of the initial stages in the development of hearths.
