The Mountain of Blood and Sighs

Soldiers of the 46th Infantry Regiment from Szeged on Mrzli Vrh

The 3rd Battalion of the 46th Infantry Regiment from Szeged fought at the Isonzo front for 28 months since the summer of 1915. Within the 3rd Mountain Brigade its mission was to defend the Tolmin bridgehead. On the 1359 m high Mrzli Vrh, where fierce battles took place, scars of war can still be seen. Lieutenant Colonel Lajos Négyesi has climbed the mountain many times since 2001. With his research group he searched for places described in war diaries from that period and identified the battalion's positions. His book reveals to us the world of caverns, hidden by the slopes of this beautiful mountain.
