The Klavže Tunnel

The Klavže Tunnel is 170 meters long, of which the first 13 meters on the northern side are merely an extension. Its special feature is the main road above it, running through the Bača Valley. The two transport connections cross each other first at the tunnel entrance and then at its exit before the Podmelec railway station. Above the railway tunnel there is also a small road tunnel, which the builders cut into solid rock.

The section of the road between Bača pri Modreju and Kneža was built in 1903, right before major construction started on the railroad line. The main construction work on the Klavže Tunnel, the stone viaduct at its entrance, and the steel bridge at its exit was carried out between 1904 and the end of 1905.
